The name has become synonymous with stairclimbers. The machines use chains to drive the pedals up and down. Stairmaster is now part of the Nautilus group which gives us great confidence that the company is going to be steppin' for quite a bit longer.

WILL THE STAIRMASTER MAKE MY BUTT BIGGER?
|
On the contrary, the StairMaster stairclimber is one of the most effective machines to tighten the butt and develop firm, shapely legs. You see, the StairMaster is one of the best aerobic machines available. When used regularly, it is very effective at burning fat and calories from the entire body while toning all the muscles of the lower body, including the butt. Toning means improving the condition of the muscles in that particular area and decreasing the fat deposits throughout the body. Just like regular aerobic exercise improves the condition of the heart without making it bigger, the StairMaster improves the condition of your legs and buttocks without making them bigger.
The only way you will get a bigger butt is to consistently squat lift heavy weights for a few repetitions to the point of exhaustion, or eat too much and don't exercise on the StairMaster.
Studies conducted by the Department of Physical Therapy at Iowa University have revealed that stairclimbing places its greatest emphasis on the quadriceps (the muscles in the front of the thighs) not the gluteus (the muscles of the buttocks). Also, women typically do not possess the genetic potential (less than one percent of the female population) to develop large muscles because they do not have enough of the hormone, testosterone, needed for the development of muscle bulk. The notion that exercising on a stairclimbing machine will cause enlargement of the buttocks is a myth.
